Athletics

Browne Academy’s inclusive athletics program allows students to join our teams, regardless of their experience in a particular sport. This enables students with no prior experience to try something new, thereby gaining skills and confidence on the field or court. On the flip side, students who have previously played a particular sport have a leadership chance, acting as mentors to the less experienced players.

Browne's teams have won many league championships over the years, as evidenced by the banners hanging in the Center for Athletics and Performing Arts. In 2017-2018, both the girls and the boys 7/8 basketball teams emerged as champions! The 7/8 won the pennant again in 2018-2019.

Browne Academy is a member of the ABC Athletic League of Greater Washington.  The list of schools includes:

Alexandria Country Day School Edlin School
Browne Academy Gesher Jewish Day School
Burgundy Farm Country Day School Green Hedges School
Capitol Hill Day School

The name "ABC" refers to the three charter members of the league - Alexandria Country Day School, Burgundy Farm Day School and Capitol Hill Day School.

Browne Academy also schedules athletic events against other independent schools within the greater Washington, DC, area.  Some of the schools we compete against include:

St. Albans Sheridan School
St. Stephen's St. Agnes School Trinity School
Congressional School of Virginia Immanuel Lutheran School
Flint Hill School St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School

The Browne Academy Athletic Program is open to middle school students, 5th-8th grade, who are in good academic standing. In the fall, there are three team sports offered by the Browne athletic department: 5/6 co-ed soccer,  7/8 co-ed soccer, and 5-8 co-ed cross country. In the winter, we offer 5/6 girls basketball, 5/6 boys basketball, 7/8 girls basketball and 7/8 boys basketball.
SPIRIT SQUAD We’ve got that B!  We’ve got that R!  We’ve got that U-I-N-S…BRUINS SENSE OF PRIDE!  These cheers, led by our Spirit Squad, can often be heard echoing from our CAPA.  The Browne Spirit Squad was established in the fall of 2013 to give lower school students an opportunity to be ambassadors for their school.   These students have participated in various parades in our community, at our boys and girls basketball games, and have even been to cheerleading competitions.  Our Spirit Squad adds a little pep to our step, some grooves to our moves, and joy in everything they do for our school.
